When Mazhar Khan first approached Jackie Shroff for the film, he politely declined. He said he was going through a difficult period in his career and that it would be hard. But the real reason was that Mazhar Khan was an unknown and unproven director. Mazhar then approached Sunny Deol. Within 2 minutes Sunny told Mazhar he was busy and could not do his film. Mazhar then approached his university-days friend Anil Kapoor. Anil turned the film down, saying he would only do Mazhar Khan's film if it were a solo-hero film. Anil did not want to do a multi-starrer. In the end Jackie called Mazhar Khan and asked him to come and narrate the film. Within a few minutes Jackie agreed to do the film.

The saxophone solo in the first section of this song is stolen/copied from the saxophone solo in George Michael (Wham)'s hit pop song "Careless Whisper" (1984). "Aaj Tu Mangley" from Gang (2000) was also sampled from George Michael's "Careless Whisper." The intro of "Aaj Tu Mangley" at 0:10 was inspired by En Vogue's "My Lovin (Never Gonna Get It)."
