Feroz Khan wanted to make a film called "Yalgaar" in 1987. The leads were to be Feroz Khan, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Sri Devi, Anuradha Patel, Saeed Jaffery, Shakti Kapoor and Amjad Khan. Sonam auditioned for the film in early 1987. The film was about a group of commandos on a desperate mission, and a song was recorded by Kalyanji Anandji in October 1986. In the summer of 1987, however, Feroz Khan decided to shelve Yalgaar and direct Dayavan instead. After Dayavan's shooting was completed, Feroz Khan started Yalgaar once again in June 1988; the stars were now Feroz Khan, Vinod Khanna (replaced by Jackie Shroff), Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Anuradha Patel, Shakti Kapoor, Amjad Khan, Saeed Jaffery and Paresh Rawal. After Feroz Khan dropped Jackie from the film, Anil Kapoor disagreed and the film was shelved; Feroz Khan's mother and brother-in-law had also passed away. The film was about the Indian Army, and the song "Hain Dil Mein Lagan" was recorded for it. Feroz later started Yalgaar with himself and Sanjay Dutt, but with a different subject and story; the song "Hain Dil Mein Lagan" was used for the new Yalgaar (1992).

After Rajput, Vijay Anand planned a big-budget film titled "Dekha Jayega" with Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Juhi Chawla and Raveena Tandon. Anil Kapoor caused major delays and backed out at the last moment, leading to the film being shelved. Vijay Anand restarted it in 1994 with Jackie Shroff and Saif Ali Khan, and the film was shelved once again. Vijay Anand repeatedly attacked Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff harshly in the media, saying they had misled him and never gave clear answers about dates.
