The film's original editor, Art Jones, was to receive only a credit. However, three months before the film's release, Jones was suddenly removed by the studio. Regarding this, David Slade later said that although Jones's cut was good, Summit felt it did not have the intended intensity. It is the only Twilight film that did not release in November, in order to avoid competition with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010). In fact, the postponement of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) from November 2008 to July 2009 caused Twilight (2008) to be released in November 2008. Moreover, the shortest release gap in the series is between this film and The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), released in 2009, while the longest release gap is between this film and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (2011).

The scenes in which Victoria builds her "army" were based on the novella 'The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner', written by Stephenie Meyer and distributed to the actors in first-draft form. A particular line Edward gives to Jane shows that he knows about the alliance mentioned in the novella but can do nothing about it because there is no proof.

Unlike the first two films (Twilight (2008) and The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)), this film contains no reference to the image on the corresponding book cover. In Twilight, Edward catches Bella's apple in the cafeteria, and in New Moon, when Carlisle burns the blood and glass from the cut on Bella's arm, they form the shape and color of the ruffled tulip in the book cover image.
