Jaime King is a recovering heroin addict who has stayed sober since 1997, when her boyfriend, fashion photographer David Sorrenti (the younger brother of Mario Sorrenti), died of a heroin overdose.

For eight years, Jaime King went undiagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis. Eventually nine doctors, including Dr. Randy Harris, diagnosed her and saved her life from a serious ectopic pregnancy. She later suffered five miscarriages and underwent five rounds of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and 26 intrauterine inseminations (IUI), most of which were unsuccessful, trying to get pregnant for 4½ years. After finally managing to carry her baby to term, she endured twenty-six hours of grueling labor and gave birth prematurely due to sudden preeclampsia.
